Origami Devilish Heart Step-by-Step Instructions

• Difficulty: Easy – Beginner Level 4
• Folding time: 10-15 minutes

Step 1

Start with the white side (the horns’ color) of the paper facing up. Fold in half vertically and pinch the top edge to mark the center. Unfold.

Step 2

Bring the bottom left corner up to meet that pinch mark. Start the fold from the bottom right corner. Pinch the left edge to mark it, then unfold.

Step 3

Bring the bottom right corner to the new pinch mark and pinch the bottom edge to mark it.

Step 4

Fold the bottom right corner to the pinch mark you just made. Crease all the way to the top, then unfold.

Step 5

Fold the left edge over to meet the crease line from Step 4. Then, unfold.

Step 6

Fold and unfold both diagonals.

Step 7

Fold the bottom edge up to the circled point. Then, unfold.

Step 8

Fold the top edge down to the crease line from Step 7. Then, turn the paper over.

Step 9

Fold the bottom corner up to the top square’s bottom corner. Mirror the fold for the top corner.

Step 10

Rotate the paper 90° clockwise.

Step 11

Repeat Step 9 on the top and bottom corners.

Step 12

Cut the paper in half along the horizontal diagonal.

Step 13

Collapse the model along the existing creases.

Step 14

Fold the top triangular area to the back. The front flap will move up.

Step 15

On each side, fold the colored triangle in half.

Step 16

On each side, fold the bottom edge in to meet the vertical centerline.

Step 17

Fold the top corner down to the horizontal centerline.

Step 18

On each side, fold the top flap’s inner edge up to meet the colored edge.

Step 19

On each side, tuck the horn flap underneath the colored pocket.

Fold the left and right corners in to meet the nearest vertical line. Then, push the top edge downward to shape the center of the heart.

Fold the top and bottom corners to where the creases from Step 2 intersect with the vertical centerline.

Step 4

Fold the bottom edge upward along the crease from Step 2.

Step 5

Fold the top edge down to meet the top edge of the colored flap.

Step 6

Mountain fold along the horizontal centerline.

Step 7

Fold the right corner inward to the vertical centerline.

Step 8

Fold the white triangle in half, from top edge to bottom edge.

Step 9

Repeat Steps 7 and 8 on the left side.

Step 10

Bring the flap located behind the fangs to the front.

Step 11

Turn the model over.

Step 12

Fold all corners inward to meet the horizontal centerline.

Fold the model in half, from left to right.

Step 14

Slightly fold the top left corner inward.

Open the model.

Gently push the top section inward along the creases you just made.

Alternative Fangs

• Mountain fold the fangs in half.

It’s quick to make, beginner-friendly, and has been around in various forms since at least the 1960s.

The version we’re folding here is the standing crow, elegant and slightly ominous, great for Halloween or as a minimalist decoration.

Kami paper works well, but for a sharper silhouette and more structure, I recommend Tant paper in black or dark grey.

You can perch your crow on an origami cube like in our photo, or let it loom from the edge of a shelf, a branch, or a basket.

Traditional Origami Crow Step-by-Step Instructions

• Difficulty: Easy – Beginner Level 3
• Folding time: 5 minutes

Step 1

Start with the colored side facing up. Fold and unfold along both diagonals.

Step 2

Turn the paper over.

Step 3

Fold and unfold side to side in both directions.

Step 4

Collapse along the existing creases to form a Square base.

Step 5

Fold the bottom edges to the centerline.

Step 6

Fold the top corner down. Crease where the layers intersect.

Step 7

Unfold Step 5.

Step 8

Petal fold the bottom corner upward (one layer only), using the existing creases.

Step 9

Repeat Steps 5 to 8 on the other side.

Step 10

Fold the top flap downward.

Step 11

Turn the model over.

Step 12

Fold the bottom left corner (top flap only) outward to the left. Crease well, then unfold.

Step 13

Inside reverse fold along the creases to form the first crow’s foot.

Folding tip: Try to fold the foot so it’s parallel to the vertical centerline.

Step 14

Repeat Steps 12 and 13 on the right side.

Step 15

Fold the model in half from right to left.

Step 16

Fold the top corner to the left. Crease well, then unfold.

Folding tip: There’s no exact reference point here, so fold it however looks good to you.

Step 17

Inside reverse fold along the creases to form the crow’s head.

With a few clever folds and some simple color changes, you’ll see the pumpkin’s mischievous face appear step by step, no tricky folds required.

You can fold the pumpkin in less than 5 minutes, and it looks great in classic orange with a contrasting color on the back.

Try purple, black, or even gold for a festive twist.

Origami Jack O’ Lantern Step-by-Step Instructions

• Difficulty: Easy – Beginner Level 2
• Folding time: 5 minutes

Step 1

Start with the white side of the paper facing up. Fold in half vertically, then unfold.

Step 2

Fold the top edges to the centerline.

Step 3

Fold the top edges to the centerline again.

Step 4

Fold the two flaps sticking out at the bottom upward.

Step 5

Fold the right part bottom edge up to where the colored and white sides meet.

Step 6

Fold the model in half. Only crease the bottom part, then unfold.

Step 7

Unfold Step 5.

Step 8

Repeat Step 5 on the left side.

Step 9

Repeat Step 6.

Step 10

Gently open the bottom flap as shown and fold the bottom right corner up along the existing crease. Part of the flap will shift to the left.

Step 11

Fold the flap you just made along the existing creases. This time, move it to the right.

Step 12

Repeat on the left side, then squash fold the top flap to flatten.

Folding tip: Use the crease lines to help center the flap before squashing.

Step 13

Fold the top flap’s right corner down along the dashed line.

Step 14

Repeat on the left side.

Step 15

Turn the model over.

Step 16

Fold the top corner down.

Folding tip: Flip the model over and adjust the fold until you like the pumpkin’s shape. This step decides the overall look!

Step 17

Fold the bottom corner up. It should stick out. This will become the pumpkin stem.

Slightly fold each corner of the pumpkin inward to round the shape.

Turn the model over.

Step 20

Pinch the stem to make it thinner.

Shape the stem however you like.

Traditional Origami Basket Step-by-Step Instructions

• Difficulty: Easy – Beginner Level 3
• Folding time: 10 minutes

Paper Preparation

Step 1

Fold the paper in half horizontally, then unfold.

Step 2

Fold the right edge to the centerline, then unfold.

Step 3

Cut along the crease made in Step 2 to create a strip for the handle.

How to Fold the Handle

Step 1

Start with the white side of the paper strip facing up. Fold it in half horizontally, then unfold.

Step 2

Fold the left and right edges inward to the centerline.

Step 3

Fold the strip in half horizontally along the crease made in Step 1.

How to Fold the Basket Case

Step 1

Start with the colored side facing up, positioned like a diamond. Fold and unfold both diagonals.

Step 2

Turn the paper over.

Step 3

Fold the paper in half from side to side in both directions, then unfold.

Step 4

Collapse the paper along the creases from Steps 1 and 3 to form a Square Base.

Step 5

Fold the top layer’s top corner down to meet the bottom corner.

Step 6

Fold the top layer’s bottom corner up to the centerline.

Step 7

Lift the flap created in Step 6 and tuck the handle behind it. The handle width should align with the crease made in Step 6.

Step 8

Hold the handle in place, then fold the top two layers of the colored flap (from Step 6) in half to secure the handle.

Step 9

Repeat Steps 5 to 8 on the other side.

Folding Tip: If your handle does not extend over the flaps pointing up, place it between them so it reaches the folding area.

Step 10

Fold and unfold the top layer’s left and right corners to the centerline.

Step 11

Reverse the creases made in Step 10 inward.

Step 12

Repeat Steps 10 and 11 on the other side.

Step 13

Place your index fingers behind the handles on both sides and gently open the basket, flattening the bottom.

Step 14

Fold the two flaps sticking out of the basket inward along the dotted lines.

Folding Tip: To make this step easier, first fold them outward, then reverse the fold inward.

Your origami basket is complete!

In just under 30 minutes, you’ll create a paper spider that’s perfect for adding a spooky touch to your decor. Let’s get folding!

Modular Origami Spider Step-by-Step Instructions

• Difficulty: Low-Intermediate
• Folding time: 20-30 minutes

Step 1

Start with the white side of the paper up. Fold and unfold in half.

Step 2

Fold and unfold in half the other way. Then, turn the paper over.

Step 3

Fold and unfold along the diagonals.

Step 4

Rotate the paper 45° counterclockwise. Then, turn it over.

Step 5

Collapse along the existing creases to form a Square Base.

Step 6

Lift the top right flap and Squash fold it flat.

Step 7

Turn the model over and repeat Step 6 on the other side.

Step 8

Repeat Step 6 on the two remaining flaps.

Step 9

Fold and unfold the left and right edges to the centerline.

Step 10

Use the creases from Step 9 to make a Petal fold.

Step 11

Turn the model over and repeat Step 10 on the other side.

Step 12

Repeat Step 10 on the remaining flaps.

Step 13

Rotate the model 180°.

Step 14

Fold the top triangle up. Then, gently pull the two top flaps apart to open the triangular flap.

Step 15

Push down the center and sink the triangular flap into the pocket. You are reversing the triangle creases to perform an open sink.

Step 16

Turn the model over and repeat Steps 14 to 15 on the other side.

Step 17

Repeat Steps 14 to 15 on the remaining flaps.

Step 18

Fold the top left and right edges to the centerline. Turn the model over and repeat on the other side.

Step 19

Repeat Step 18 on the remaining flaps.

Step 20

Inside reverse fold the top flaps along the dotted lines. Turn the model over and repeat on the other side.

Step 21

Pull one pair of legs downward and flatten them.

Step 22

Mountain fold the legs downward along the dotted lines.

Folding tip: You can also outside reverse fold the legs. However, a double-sided paper is recommended to avoid having white gaps.

Step 23

Blow gently into the hole to puff up the body.

Step 24

Create another Frog Base by repeating Steps 1 to 12 on a new sheet of paper.

Step 25

Fold the top triangular flap up. Then, repeat on the other side.

Step 26

Flip the top right flap to the left and repeat Step 25. Then, repeat on the remaining flaps.

Step 27

Pleat the left and right top flaps behind the front layers. Repeat on the other side, folding at a slightly higher angle.

Step 28

At the level of the front layers, fold the body and leg edges to the centerline. Start folding from the top down, creating a swivel fold at the junction. Repeat on all remaining sides.

Step 29

Mountain fold the legs upward along the dotted lines.

Folding tip: Again, you can also outside reverse fold the legs. However, a double-sided paper is recommended to avoid having white gaps.

Step 30

Insert the finished top half into the bottom half.

Folding tip: Fold the long flap in half to make the insertion easier.
