This playful devilish heart —Cœur Diabolique— is another fun creation by Francesco Mancini. It’s folded from a triangle, which means you can make two hearts from one square sheet of paper.

The folding process starts with some precreasing and a 3×3 grid, which gives you a chance to slow down and focus on precision before folding the heart and its cute little horns.

It’s perfect for Halloween, Valentine’s Day, or anytime you want to mix sweetness with a bit of mischief. Try red and white paper for a classic look, or experiment with duo colored paper like in the photo.

Origami Devilish Heart Step-by-Step Instructions

  • Difficulty: Easy – Beginner Level 4
  • Folding time: 10-15 minutes

Recommended Paper

15×15 cm (6×6 in) Kami

This traditional origami crow is folded from the classic bird base, with just a few simple steps added to shape its beak and feet.

It’s quick to make, beginner-friendly, and has been around in various forms since at least the 1960s.

The version we’re folding here is the standing crow, elegant and slightly ominous, great for Halloween or as a minimalist decoration.

Kami paper works well, but for a sharper silhouette and more structure, I recommend Tant paper in black or dark grey.

You can perch your crow on an origami cube like in our photo, or let it loom from the edge of a shelf, a branch, or a basket.

This playful origami Little Demon is part of a charming series of tea bag holders designed by Sébastien Limet. Folded from a simple base (similar to the traditional fish base), it perches right on the rim of your cup — horns up, claws out, and ready to guard your brew.

The folding sequence is simple and satisfying, with clever color changes that bring the character to life. It’s a great model to personalize, and Sébastien even challenged our Origami Circle members to design their own tea companions using the same base.

You’ll find the diagram and workshop inside Origami Circle. Come fold your own little demon for tea time with us.

The Thing stares back at you… and you’re not quite sure what it wants.

This unsettling and expressive origami was designed by João Charrua, a brilliant Portuguese artist known for his sculptural, almost lifelike creations.

True to his style, The Thing is full of character. It’s folded to look like it’s peeking just over a ledge — two heavy-lidded eyes and clawed hands gripping the edge. Whether you place it on a shelf, a table, or the top of your TV, it’s guaranteed to add a touch of eerie presence, especially around Halloween.

The model’s diagrams and how-to-fold video are available in our Shadows and Fold origami bundle.
